Brielle & Getulio - Engagement - Claytor Lake State Park - Dublin, Virginia

How they met: Brielle & Getulio were both new teachers to the International school in Colombia. That morning the school picked up the new teachers to take them shopping for home essentials and as soon as Brielle got on the bus, they caught eyes right off the bat. While shopping they playfully started arguing about pillow selection. Three days later they were both at a dinner and after a night of dancing and flirting they had their first kiss. A week later they had their real first date.

How he proposed: Eight months later they were taking a trip to Isla Baru, an island off the city of Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. This was a special trip, as this was the first place they had traveled together as a couple. They took a small boat from Cartagena to Isla Baru, Playa Blanca. Brielle was feeling much anticipation all day because she had a feeling he might propose on this trip, but wasn't 100% sure yet.
The beach was pretty busy all day and they swam in the ocean and hung out on the beach all day. Finally late afternoon, people started beginning to clear out and the beach was so much calmer. Getulio suggested getting a picture standing in the water so he told her to go over to the water so he could line his phone up to take a self-timed picture. They posed for a while then Brielle asked him if the picture took by now. He said yes and pulled her in his arms so that they could look into their eyes. He began speaking to her, telling her how he's been in love with her since the day they met. He told her all the things he loved about her and then he said that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and never be without her.

By now, Brielle began to realize it was happening and she started saying yes, before he even got on his knee. When she saw him reach for his pocket and take out a small black box, she said "I'm going to cry" to which he replied "me too!"
Getulio got down on his knee and asked those four words Brielle couldn't wait to hear. She said Yes! (of course) and they hugged, kissed and went back to watch the beautiful video Getulio had captured on camera.

I met with them at Sweet Donkey, a coffee shop in Roanoke and the whole time we were talking, they were snuggled in this hug. When you meet them you feel the love immediately. There is not a minute that goes by without them reaching out to each other and that obviously made the engagement session so much easier for me. These sessions are so important for me cause I get to spend time with my couples before their special day and I get to know them. How they are together and document through my images, what I see. It's during sessions like this one that I realize how lucky I am to have the chance to witness the evolving of these love stories...
