Most of my engagement sessions are scheduled about one hour before sunset, working with the best light of the day. But sometimes it happens that your couple is from out of town and the weather is calling for a thunderstorm after 2pm, so what do you do?!
Like most portrait photographers, I was terrified to shoot in harsh light, especially with the temperatures being in the 90s, but I was up for the challenge and I love every single shot from this session!
So when I found out that they were going to dive in the lake after the engagement session, I asked if I could capture that part too and I am so glad I did!!!
How they met: Carson and Caroline met while they were in college, in the last couple weeks of his senior year (she was one year below him) at an end of the season track party. It was funny timing because Sewanee is a pretty small school and their paths never crossed until the very end of his Sewanee career.
A couple of weeks after they met, they spent a lot of time together hiking, studying for finals in the library, and going out on their first few dates. Neither of them was expecting to have such a connection but it was pretty undeniable this relationship was going somewhere. Shortly after Carson's graduation ceremony, they decided to do a long-distance relationship for our first year. Caroline was coming back to college and Carson was moving to DC. It was sad to say goodbye to those few weeks they first spent together but if we are doing engagement pictures they handled the whole thing pretty well! ;)
Caroline & Carson decided that Julep (how cool is that?!! And yes, that stands for mint julep!!), their dog was going to be a part of their engagement pictures. And it seemed like she enjoyed it very much!!! Did I mention that she followed them straight in the lake? :)
